You think you’re prepared for the death of a parent, until it happens. What if your father died tomorrow and your mother had to plan the funeral, manage the family finances, find and file legal and financial paperwork for the next eighteen months and take care of the house -- alone? Could she do it all? Who would she turn to for help?

Multi-Tasking Woman Jamieson Haverkampf faced these questions first-hand when she and her sister supported their 61-year-old father through his battle with non-Hodgkin‘s lymphoma. Then, after his death in 2001, the sisters shifted gears to assist their 56-year-old mother through the heart-wrenching and
decision-loaded journey of unexpected widowhood.

“I searched for books with resources and advice to help,” Jamieson says. “There were many about bereavement, grief, and loss for widows or widowers, but most didn‘t address the needs of busy adult sons and daughters who end up helping and guiding their newly widowed parent. I finally realized that the book I was looking for didn’t exist.” So in true multi-tasking fashion, this already busy professional woman wrote one.

Mom Minus Dad: The Essential Resource Guide for Busy Adults with a
Newly Widowed Parent is a compilation of all her best hands-on tips, resources, and advice. Along her journey of loss and healing, Jamieson became certified as a Grief & Recovery Specialist, and now travels and helps others through her web site.  She Atlanta home now, along with her Cavalier dog, Fritz.

Thank you, Jamieson, for creating a resource that so many of us need – whether now or in the future - as our multi-tasking roles expand to caring for those who’ve cared for us.
