All You Need is Love ... and a little lipstick!

Turning 40 never looked more stylish while helping so many. On Saturday, August 16, 2008 from 7-10 PM on the Maxim Prime rooftop overlooking Centennial Park, Authentic Beauty CEO Alyson Hoag will celebrate a milestone birthday along with her newest inner beauty initiative Project Authentic Beauty, a non-profit effort to bolster teen self esteem and nurture traumatized women through education and makeup services. The event is a benefit for the project and a partnership kickoff with The Chelko Foundation.

“Lifting the authentic voice of young girls and women to love themselves completely is the best birthday present I could ever have,” said Hoag. “My vision for Project Authentic Beauty is to empower women to cherish their inner beauty and feel inspired on every birthday of their life.”

Gala attendees will get birthday cake, a special gift bag, and a full taste of Project Authentic Beauty’s plans to free women and girls from self-negativity and stress. Hoag’s signature Authentic Beauty lipstick and lip gloss line will be available for purchase with all proceeds benefiting the new project. Benefit tickets start at $40.

Project Authentic Beauty carries a large mission: to empower all women and girls to feel beautiful from the inside out; and to provide hope and healing for women experiencing trauma through education, makeup services and makeup. Initiative actions include:
•    Beauty makeovers to Hurricane Katrina survivors (V-Day 10thAnniversary, New Orleans LA 2008)
•    Prom makeup services to homeless teenagers (Covenant House, Atlanta GA 2008)
•    Makeup services to mothers of chronically ill children (Q-100 Bert’s Big Adventure, Disneyworld FL 2009)
•    Workshops to girls 8-18 on inner beauty, self-esteem, nutrition and exercise, and media savvy education
•    Education presentation to guidance counselors (statewide Georgia School Counselor Conference 2008)

By the time girls reach age thirteen, 80% report dissatisfaction with their body and weight. New research indicates a growing effect of the media on women’s body image such as internalizing the thin ideal. “The impact of your gift to Project Authentic Beauty is nothing less than freeing young women and girls from a dangerous prison of unreal beauty industry stereotypes.” said Hoag. “So come get a new lipstick and party on the roof!”

Authentic Beauty and The Chelko Foundation found each other through mutual support of Hurricane Katrina survivors as part of Atlanta V-Day’s bus trip to New Orleans this past May. “Alyson’s commitment to provide care, hope and healing to women who had experienced trauma seemed a natural extension of our mission, namely empowering women through opportunities” said Randi Layne, Chelko president. “We are excited about this partnership with Project Authentic Beauty.”
